FAQ

So, how does this blog work?

It’s pretty simple!

Let’s suppose there was cartoon you used to watch a long time ago. You were young. Barely could read. Yet, for some reason, you often think about this show with nostalgia. Maybe you remember a face, or an episode. Maybe you can only remember a character name, or a quirky side-kick, but for whatever reason, you can never remember the name of the show. Maybe you think of it wistfully and wonder if you’ll ever remember its name. Maybe it’s driving you crazy just trying to remember a name!

Whatever the case may be, I’m here to help! I have a weird catalog of animation nestled within my brain (an Archive if you will) and I’ve decided to put this skill to use for the forces of good and help all those lost souls find what they’re looking for! If you have an animated show that you used to watch years ago but are having a hard time recalling the name of, submit to me everything that you remember about that show, whether it be the name of the characters, a basic premise, the network you used to watch it on, the approximate year that you used to watch it. All of this information is very useful to narrow down options! I’ll do a bit of digging and research, and I’ll let you know what I come up with! If I need some more information, I’ll contact you by email and ask you a couple questions to narrow down my search.

As a note of courtesy, the request as well as the findings will be made public on this blog upon completion of the task.  If you wish to remain anonymous, feel free to state so either as your name within the contact box, or within the contents of the email. All private information will remain as such, and if upon request, I will not publish my findings. This is simply a side-hobby that I maintain in my free time and I will everyone to feel as comfortable as possible. I hope that I’m successful in that endeavor.

Do you find anime as well as cartoons?

Of course~!

However, I’m not as well versed in anime as I am in western cartoons, so the likelihood that I’ll find what you’re looking for will be significantly lower. The problem with the anime market is that it is particularly flooded with very similar, easy-to-sell series that makes them very difficult distinguish from one another. I’ll do my very best to satisfy your request, but I don’t guarantee that I’ll be very fruitful.

What’s the current status of your inbox?

Currently, the inbox is open, empty, and completely free! So send me your requests and I’ll get on them as soon as I can!

I’ve found some broken links and issues with your site. How can I get them fixed?

Right now, I’m still in the process of creating the blog exactly how I want it to be. Originally, this was a Tumblr blog with a different format, different system, completely different rules that I’m trying to convert as seamlessly as I can onto this site. However, now that I have a little bit more freedom to customize things as I would like them and format them however I want, one of the biggest things in my way is coding. Things will be a mess for some time until I can fully migrate onto this site, and I hope that you’ll have patience with me.

If there is something egregiously wrong, don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll attempt to fix it as soon as I can. However, people realize this site is a one-person side-project, with its administrator still currently in college. I will do everything in my power to make this site as clean and professional as I can make it, but please be patient with my progress.

I was looking through your “Sorted By Era” tags and I found your categories really odd. Why do you sort modern cartoons by years of 5, sort early cartoons by years of 10, and then lump pioneering animation all into one category?

Short Answer: My brain is weird and those are the mental categories I separate animation into when I’m doing research.

Long Answer: Technology and Animation are deeply intertwined with each other in terms of the quality of animation being produced during each period. The interesting thing about our time period is that we’re living in what could aptly be called a “technological revolution.” With each passing year, the boundaries of what is technologically possible are being pushed passed what we could even possibly imagine as their limits 20 years ago. This includes animation.

In the pioneering days, the majority of cartoons were drawn by all hand— frame by frame by individual artists assigned to separate tasks. As technology progressed, animation was able to be hand-painted onto a celloid sheet that sits on top of a (typically) watercolored still background and photographed frame by frame that allowed animators to be more detailed and elaborate with their animations. Then, the process of Xenography came along, which allowed those sheets to be printed on, and then computers were invented and so on and so forth until you get to modern technology.

With each one of these technological advancements, the amount of time required to complete each project gets shorter and shorter and the amount of animation that is being produced each year grows exponentially. Nowadays, each network has their own batch of original content in addition to the content that is produced in various different countries. And don’t even get me started on how over saturated the anime market is. So as you can see: the older the animation is, the fewer amount of animation that is being produced within a longer time span. In order to simply justify certain tags and to have a wider variety of cartoons to look through at your leisure, I have to break them up differently depending on when they were produced.

As far as to why I didn’t start the “by 5’s” categories at the turn of the century, the late 90s/early 2000s are an interesting time period for animation. At this time period, the cartoon industry was just starting to use Flash animation and as such there’s a bit of mixture as far as the different cartoons being produced. A lot of various proceedures crossed the ‘99/‘00 border and as such, Flash animation didn’t become an industry standard until 2004/2005. So while it seems odd outside of context, when you look at it from a technological standpoint and simply from the stance of the amount of content that was out during each time period, it makes a whole lot more logistical sense.

I found a mistake on one of your posts. Is there any way I can get it fixed?

Of course! Let me know where my mistake is and I’ll fix it as soon as possible.

However, I would just like to reiterate again that I am only one person. I make mistakes from time to time. This is a side-blog that I do in my free-time so there will likely be little mistakes here and there, especially regarding small obscure tidbits of information. For example, I may X person voice this character when it is really Y, or may say that a show premiered on X network when in reality, the show got popular on X network but really it premiered on network Y. I strive for excellency in my posts and want all my information to be as accurate as possible. But please, don’t wast my time. I have so very little left as it is, and by doing so, I’ll just get upset. Then, you’ll get upset I’m upset. Then, I’ll get upset you’re upset. And it’s just a big ugly mess.

If you spot a grammatical error, I’ll say it one more time: I am one person with a life an obligations outside of this blog. If it is really that obvious of a mistake, I’ll correct it when I have the time but otherwise, I can’t guarantee it’ll get fixed.

So please, be kind. Don’t waste my time.

Let’s all be friends, okay?

Do you take Weekly Spotlight requests?

Unless I specifically ask for them, no.

What makes you qualified to run this blog?

Um… I like cartoons?

When I was growing up, I used to watch a ton of animated shows and movies. This continued on throughout my teenage years and into early adulthood, where I watch animated shows to this day. I’ve watched Toonami, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Disney XD, Nick GAS. I’ve watched Disney movies, Ghibli movies, Dreamworks movies, and (shudder) Illumination movies. I’ve watched shows on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu, Amazon Prime. To put it short, I’ve watched a lot of animated shows. I have a really big catalog of weird and obscure cartoons nestled in my brain so I just thought I might help some people out.

So, am I “qualified?” Absolutely not. I’m just a really big nerd with a really long memory.

Where’d you get your cool banner and artwork? I love it!

For now, these are just placeholders until I can carve out some time to put up my own original artwork.

The Samurai Jack Pixel Art came from here:

The Archive Banner came from here:

If you have an issue with the usage of your artwork in any of my posts or on my blog, message me privately and I’ll take it down as soon as possible. I honestly just searched google under the “labeled for reuse” filter to see what was available for free.
